MEMPHIS- In the final series of the regular season, the Lynx (16-12) split the day 1-1 with Millsaps (10-22). After falling 3-1 in the first game of the day, Rhodes came back with a vengeance as they claimed game two 8-1.
Game 1
After a slow start, action began in the top of the third. Millsaps' Chris Hart opened the scoring singling up the middle to bring a batter home. In the bottom of the inning, junior
Ben Wilson crossed Rhodes' first run after being hit by a wild pitch, advancing to second on a ground out, and finally making it home on a single down the left field line.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Millsaps broke the stalemate in the fifth when a single to left field gave the Majors enough time to run one in, giving them a 2-1 lead. The Majors would go on to keep the lead bringing in another runner at the top of the ninth finishing with a 3-1 win.
GAME 2
It was Rhodes' turn to claim the board first when junior
Peter York saw an opportunity and ran it home on a throwing error.
In the second, the Lynx tallied two more runs. The first run of the bottom came when fifth year senior
Paul Giacomazzi grounded out to second base, giving Wilson the chance to score when Millsaps decided to tag first base instead of throwing it home. The last run of the inning came when York doubled down the right field line bringing sophomore
Gunnar Vachris home.
In the bottom of the third, the Lynx continued to pull away when junior
John McNair doubled out to right field to bring
Wood Kimbrough across the plate for a 4-0 lead. Vachris followed up four batters later hitting a deep fly ball to right field bringing in two more Lynx and a 6-0 lead.
Starting the lineup in the bottom of the fourth, York kept the score climbing when he hit a bomb to Rhodes Softball Field - the only homer of the day.
To round out the fifth, Vachris brought in his third batter of the game when he singled through the right side scoring
Ben Wilson from second.
The Majors worked their way onto the board in the top of the seventh when a batter inside-outed a fastball past the diving third baseman, scoring the Majors' only run.
Senior
Patrick Morrison pitched a complete game on the mound striking out five while allowing less than one hit per inning.
