Hoover, Ala. - Rhodes College baseball fell 4-3 to Millsaps Monday before revenging the Majors 13-6.
Game One
Rhodes took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first before
Chris Penna doubled in
Paul Giacomazzi to give Rhodes a 3-1 advantage. The Majors rallied for three unearned runs in the sixth inning as they held on for the win.
Nick Ferazzi got the start and struck out six Majors over five innings of work. The Lynx earned a hit each from
Will Heurtin, Penna and
Dante Messina.
Game Two
The Lynx jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings which included five runs crossing home in the second inning alone. In the top of the third inning, Millsaps scored four runs, but Rhodes retaliated with another three runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 10-4. Rhodes added another three runs across the next two innings before the Majors finished scoring with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Five Lynx earned two hits in the game. Giacomazzi went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Messina,
Peter York and Heurtin each went 2-for-3.
Mitchell O'Berry tallied a sac fly.
C.J. Carron struck out five Majors over 2.2 innings of work. In the last two innings of the game,
Andy Shreves struck out four batters.
Due to ongoing water issues in Memphis, the location for the Rhodes/Hendrix series, originally scheduled to be played at Stauffer Field Feb. 27-28, is still up in the air. We will update the website and social media as soon as details are made available.
