No. 14 Lynx Drop Series To Hendrix

Hoover, Ala. - For the second weekend in a row, Rhodes College baseball was forced to travel to Hoover, Ala. to play games at the Hoover Met Baseball Fields. The Lynx fell 6-3 in 13 innings to Hendrix on Saturday. On Sunday, they defeated the Warriors 13-1 before suffering a 7-3 loss in game two.

Game 1
After three innings Hendrix led 4-3 before a Rhodes error allowed the Warriors to go ahead by one in the sixth. The Lynx trailed by two in the bottom of the ninth with two outs when four straight singles tied the game and forced extra innings. Rhodes stranded two runners in the 11th inning and one in the 12th. Hendrix scored the game-winning run on a triple with two outs. 

Six Lynx pitchers struck out nine Warriors. At the plate, Rhodes totaled 10 hits, two each from Wood Kimbrough, Chris Penna and Ben Wilson. Penna also walked twice and scored twice.

Game 2
The Lynx got off to an early start with runs in the first inning on three hits, a walk,  hit by pitch and a sac fly. After four scoreless innings, Rhodes posted five runs in the sixth on four hits. The runs were all scored with two outs. Will Heurtin singled in two runs before a Penna ground-rule double added another and Kimbrough's double scored two. Hendrix avoided the shutout with a lone run in the seventh before the Lynx added five more runs to end the game early, three of which came from a Penna home run.

Nick Ferazzi earned the win striking  out five Warriors over 6.2 hits. The sophomore allowed just four hits and one run while on the mound. Penna went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, four RBI, walk, and three runs scored. Heurtin went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Dante Messina also doubled in the win.

Game 3
Hendrix went ahead 3-0 before the Lynx capitalized on a Hendrix error and scored two runs. Hendrix added four more runs to lead 7-1 in the top of the seventh on four hits and a Lynx error. Penna hit a solo home run leading off the bottom of the ninth to end scoring for the Lynx. He went 3-for-3 in the game with a walk, RBI and two runs scored. Heurtin, Messina and Peter York also tallied a hit while Julien Brown tallied a walk. Six Lynx hit the mound. John Fears struck out three over 3.1 innings of work.

The Lynx are scheduled to travel to Birmingham once again, but this time, will take on the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern in four games on the college's campus. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.
