Box Score Nashville, Tenn. - Rhodes College football was forced to give up their final home game of the season Saturday when snow and ice covered Crain Field. The Lynx met Centre College in Nashville at Brentwood Academy, falling 30-0 in Centre's season-opener.
Centre's special teams unit downed their punt at Rhodes' one yard line. On the first play of Rhodes' drive the Colonel defense capitalized and tallied two points on the safety. On the ensuing kickoff, the Colonels returned the ball 32 yards to Rhodes' 31 yard line. Two passes later the Colonels led 9-0.
A Lynx fumble at the end of the first led to a Centre touchdown early in the second quarter for a 16-point lead. On Centre's next drive, the Lynx defense broke up two passes and recovered a fumble on their own 33 yard line. The Lynx marched down to Centre's 26 yard line before turning the ball over on downs. Rhodes ended the half on a drive after getting down to Centre's two yard line before the Colonel defense kept the Lynx scoreless. During the drive, Rhodes made four passing completions totaling 75 yards which included a 35-yard reception by
Ethan Chamberlin.
Nick Floyd stopped the Centre's offense with an interception on the first drive of the second half, but the Lynx couldn't convert the offensive opportunity. The Colonels scored a touchdown on their next drive and then scored a pick-six on a 44-yard return to end scoring with 41 seconds left in the third quarter.
Michael Thomas ended Centre's 13-play drive at the beginning of the fourth quarter with an interception at Rhodes' 10 yard line before returning it 11 yards for the Lynx. The Lynx defense stopped the Colonels on fourth and two on their next drive for a turnover on downs.
Overall,
Christian Willis rushed for 19 yards while
Jace Franklin made 17 pass completions for 158 yards.
Walker Taylor led all Lynx receivers with seven catches for 55 yards. Chamberlin totaled 46 yards on five catches.
James Moskosky returned four kickoffs for 75 yards including one for 25 yards.
Joe Conroy led the defense with 11 tackles including four solo while
Rod Thornton and
Kobe Bins each tallied eight tackles. Conroy, Bins and
Minh Giang recorded a total of two sacks against the Colonels for a loss of 23 yards. Bins made three tackles for a loss of 13 yards while
John Harris tallied two tackles for a loss of 11 yards. Overall, five Lynx forced incomplete passes for the Colonels on QB hurries.
Rhodes is scheduled to travel to Berry College on Saturday, February 20.
