MEMPHIS - The 2019 Rhodes College volleyball team has been named a recipient of the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award as announced by the organization for the 2019-20 academic year.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Rhodes, one of 231 NCAA Division III institutions to earn the honor this year, posted a cumulative GPA of 3.51.

A record 1,313 teams garnered the honor in 2019-20, breaking the previous year's record of 1,130 by almost 200 teams.

This marks the 13th time in program history the Lynx have garnered AVCA Team Academic honors and the fourth in the last five years.
