Mike Clary Named Head Men’s Golf Coach

6/26/2020 11:00:00 AM

Memphis - Mike Clary has been named the Rhodes College head men's golf coach for the 2020-21 season. A familiar face for the Lynx, Clary will continue with his duties as the head women's golf coach, where the Hall of Fame coach has led the Lynx to three NCAA Division III National Championships.

"Coach Clary is the ultimate team player and I'm grateful for him to lead our men during these unprecedented times in our nation," said Director of Athletics Matt Dean.

Clary will replace Bill Cochran, who in September of 2019, announced he would retire at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. "I'm excited about the opportunity to lead the men's golf program," said Coach Clary. "In his 19 years as head coach, Coach Cochran built the men's program into one of the top programs in the country. It's my goal to build on the success Coach Cochran achieved.

Tom Campbell will join the men's golf staff as an assistant coach. Campbell served as the head men's golf coach at Centre College for five years. While at Centre his teams competed in several NCAA championships, while also producing the 2011 NCAA Individual Champion (Chris Morris) and a team finish of seventh place. Campbell, an outstanding player in his own right, won the 2014 Kentucky State Amateur Tournament and continues to rank as one of the top amateur players in Kentucky. Campbell will continue with his position as a Demo Day Representative with Calloway Golf.

Recently Rhodes men's golf won back-to-back Southern Athletic Association Championships in 2017 and 2018, made five straight NCAA appearances (2014-2018) and have been nationally ranked in the top-20 six of the last seven years.
