Spring Spotlight: Katie Clark (Senior | Atlanta, Ga.), Women's Lacrosse
- What was the decision process like in choosing the Rhodes? What ultimately helped persuade your decision?
Rhodes "checked off" all my boxes when I was looking at colleges. It was a small liberal arts school with great resources but in a city that offered many opportunities to build community outside of my school.
- What is it about your team/program do you like best?
My favorite thing about the Rhodes Women's Lacrosse program is the sense of loyalty we all bring. No matter what, we have each other's backs, regardless of graduation year, major, hometown or what it may be. I made best friends and confidants with women who I might not otherwise have even met without lacrosse at Rhodes.
- Do you have a favorite memory or memories?
This year when we played Roanoke on a weekday, we had to have a later starting time so we could attend afternoon classes, but the sun was setting by the time we started the second half. At halftime, the officials told us that they could call the game at any point if the darkness was dangerous. So essentially, it was a close came and we couldn't let up and had to be winning right off the first whistle. We went back on the turf and it was a one and one game. Back and forth, we would score, they would score, we would then they would. With a few minutes left, we were down. In the dark, we scored to win 16-15. Roll lynx.
- Is there any specific play or performance that sticks out in your mind across your career, whether it involve you or was a teammate's accomplishment?
We were having a rough game against a very good program and coach called Meghan Weatherly, a low defender, to take the draw. She amazingly got the ball, went onto our attack, and got an 8-meter free position shot. Although she didn't score, it was the best because I never ever thought I would see Meghan on the draw, let alone on attack, let alone with a free position shot!
- What advice would you give to an underclassman teammate?
Play every single day like it is your last. You truly never know when it can all be taken away from you. So, give it all you got. No matter how hot or cold, no matter the drill or the game, just make the most of it.
- Do you have future plans after school is finished this spring?
I am planning to work in the set design and art department for a movie production company.
- Do you have any social distancing advice, games, or ideas to help people pass the time?
Work on accountability. Wall ball, yoga or bodyweight cardio with a friend or teammate on FaceTime. I am trying to take this time to transition into being an athlete without relying on a team schedule.
- Would you like to share any hobbies or favorite foods with us?
I love ice skating and making art. There's nothing like good ole blue box Kraft mac and cheese.
- Must go-to Memphis restaurants or places to check out?
Try to go to new places more than repeating ones you already know are good. Hustle and Dough has hand pies that are unlike anything I have ever tasted! It is a cute spot right by the Civil Rights Museum!
