Lakeland - The No. 12 Rhodes College Lynx played a tightly contested matchup against the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons Friday afternoon. The Lynx held the lead for most of the game, but the Red Dragons made a late comeback effort. Rhodes halted the comeback and downed Oneonta 5-4. This victory is the senior class' 100th victory in a Rhodes College uniform.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Top of 1st inning: The Red Dragons capitalized off of a pair of throwing errors and wild pitches to grab the early lead (1-0).
Bottom of 1st inning: The Lynx wasted no time in getting that run back as Peter York started off the inning with an infield single, a throwing error put runners on the corners, and then a piece of good base running plated the tying run (1-1).
Bottom of 3rd inning: Rhodes was able to grab the lead in the bottom of the third frame. A Will Heurtin single up the middle got things started for the Lynx. Paul Giacomazzi followed that with a hard hit double to left center which brought Heurtin all away around to score (2-1). Wood Kimbrough topped off the scoring for the inning with a two run homer over the left field fence (4-1).
Bottom of 6th inning: Seth Rohlwing reached first on a throwing error. Nathan Mirochnick pinch ran for Rohlwing and immediately made an impact on the base paths as he stole second on the first pitch. Willard Overstreet also was able to reach base on a throwing error which also brought Mirochnick to third. York hit a ground ball to the first baseman to bring home Mirochnick (5-1).
Top of 7th inning: The Red Dragons were able to chip away at the lead as they recorded four base knocks which resulted in two runs scoring (5-3).
Top of the 9th inning: Oneonta decided to make things interesting in the final frame as a home run brought the Red Dragons within one from the lead (5-4), Dubs slammed the door and sent the Lynx fans home happy.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Senior Trey Sledge improved his win total to three as he tossed an impressive 5.1 innings, while allowing only two hits, one run, and striking out six batters.
- Senior Jacob Dubs recorded his second save of the season, and week, as he tossed 3.2 innings and struck out six.
- Seven of the nine starters for the Lynx were able to record a base hit in the contest. John McNair led the way with two. Chris Penna, York, Heurtin, Giacomazzi, Kimbrough, and Overstreet all finished with one.
- Kimbrough's big fly in the third inning brings his total to three on the season. He also led the offensive attack with two RBI.
- York and Giacomazzi picked up an RBI each.
- McNair has recorded a base knock in eight consecutive contests.
- This victory is the 100th victory for the senior class in a Rhodes College uniform. Each recruiting class of Coach Cleanthes and Coach Schrier has reached 100 victories in their career.
