Orlando, Fla. - Rhodes College men's tennis went 1-1 Thursday over spring break, falling to No. 16 Kenyon 9-0 before rallying for an 8-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer.
Against Kenyon, senior
Ritwik Chatterjee and freshman
Daniel Trudell took their No. 3-doubles opponents into a tiebreaker, falling 7-8 (3-7). Chatterjee then took his No. 1 singles competition to yet another tiebreaker where he fell 6-3, 2-6, 3-10. Trudell took four games in his first set at No. 3 singles.
Later Thursday night at USTA National, the Lynx defeated all Colby-Sawyer opponents except No. 3-doubles which went into a tiebreaker. Chatterjee and fellow senior
Phil Lauture won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while
Andrew Morton and
Ryan Crump almost shutout their opponents (8-1) at No. 2 doubles. Rhodes limited Colby-Sawyer to three total sets in the top three singles matches before
David Phillips won 7-6 (3), 6-4 at No. 4 singles and at No. 5 singles
Ted Hall won in a third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 10-5. Freshman
Stuart Tuck started off singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
Rhodes will conclude their abbreviated season on Friday with a 5 p.m. ET match against Washington College (MD).
