Box Score 2 Orlando, Fla. - Rhodes College men's tennis defeated Occidental and Wheaton, both by the score of 6-3. The wins improve the Lynx to .500 on the year (5-5).
Against Occidental, Rhodes won at No. 2 doubles (
Ritwik Chatterjee,
Andrew Morton) in a tiebreaker 8-7 (2) while
Daniel Trudell and
Alex Lloyd took No. 3 doubles 8-3. Oxy took the No. 1 doubles victory in a tiebreaker 8-7 (0). Oxy tied the match 2-2 with a win at No. 3 singles before Rhodes won at No. 4 and No. 5 (tiebreaker) and sealed the win with a tiebreaking win at No. 1 singles from Chatterjee (6-4, 3-6, 10-7). The win tied the program record for career singles victories (62). Oxy took the second singles match in a tiebreaker before
Frank Stich closed the game battling yet another tiebreaking win in the sixth singles slot (3-6, 6-2, 10-8).
In singles play, Rhodes went up 3-0 after wins at 5, 6, and 4 before Wheaton recorded their lone singles victory at No. 2 singles. Lloyd put the Lynx back up by three with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win in the third slot before Chatterjee won the deciding match at No. 1 singles 6-7, 6-4, 10-4, and ultimately becoming the Lynx leader for career singles victories. Following singles, Wheaton took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles but David Philips and
Ryan Crump won No. 2 doubles 8-5.
The Lynx will now turn to face No. 9 Case Western Reserve in a new time at 8 a.m. ET Wednesday morning.
