Memphis - The No. 12 Rhodes College Lynx opened their Spring Break play against the University of Dubuque Spartans Tuesday afternoon. Both teams combined for 22 hits, but the Lynx hits were more meaningful as they were able to down the Spartans 7-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Top of 4th inning: Rhodes jumped on the board first when Paul Giacomazzi scorched a double to lead off the inning, Wood Kimbrough followed with a single to advance Giacomazzi to third, and then a John McNair single plated the first run of the day (1-0).
Top of 5th inning: The Lynx extended their lead as they capitalized off of a few hits and some fielding errors. Two runs scored when an errant throw from the third baseman got passed the first baseman (3-0). Giacomazzi smoked another double to plate another run (4-0). The Lynx extended their lead to five runs when another error was made by the Spartans (5-0).
Bottom of 5th inning: Dubuque chipped away at the lead as they brought home three runs off of three base knocks and a Lynx error (5-3).
Top of 6th inning: Peter York doubled home another run for Rhodes to extend their lead (6-3). Giacomazzi reached on a fielder's choice, which was able to bring home Willard Overstreet (7-3).
Bottom of 6th inning: A solo home run from the Spartan's right fielder closed the lead to three runs (7-4).
Bottom of 7th inning: The Spartans rounded out the scoring of the contest when a throwing error brought the game to its final score (7-5).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Cady improved to 2-0 on the mound as he was able to toss 4.2 strong innings. He held the Spartans to one earned run (3 runs total) and six hits, while striking out six batters.
- York and Overstreet led the offensive attack for the Lynx as they each recorded three base hits. Giacomazzi followed with two hits.
- Giacomazzi led the RBI stat line as he tallied two in the contest. John Medich, York, and McNair finished with one each.
- Rhodes outhit Dubuque 12-10.
- 11 errors were committed in the contest.
- Dubs recorded his first save of the season.
