Montgomery, Ala. - The Rhodes College Lynx baseball team opened their 2020 campaign as they took on the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets on the campus of Huntingdon College. Rhodes rallied back from a 6-0 deficit, but the comeback effort was halted by the Yellow Jackets as they held on to the 6-3 victory Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bottom of 1st inning: R-MC led their offensive day with a leadoff walk who was later knocked in by a sacrifice fly to center field (1-0).
Top of 2nd inning: The Lynx had the bases juiced with a Will Huertin walk, John McNair single through the left side, and a Chris Penna walk, but the starting pitcher for the Yellow Jackets left those players stranded as Rhodes left three on base (1-0).
Bottom of the 3rd inning: R-MC's Mike Nickles hit a homer to right field to plate two Yellow Jackets (3-0).
Bottom of the 4th inning: The Yellow Jackets added three to their total with a bases-clearing double to left field, which ended their scoring for the day (6-0). Â
Top of the 5th inning: A Peter York single through the left side put the Lynx on the scoreboard as it brought home Paul Giacomazzi (6-1). This led to R-MC taking their starting pitcher out of their ballgame. Rhodes wasn't done chipping away in the inning as Wood Kimbrough smoked a double to right center to plate Josh Esclamado (6-3). A bang-bang play at the plate ended the inning.Â
Top of the 9th inning: John McNair started off the inning with a single through the right side. Penna followed with a double that was scorched to left field, which advanced McNair to third. Giacomazzi singled home one of the runs to bring the Lynx within three, with baserunners on the corners (6-3). R-MC's pitcher left those runners stranded as the Yellow Jackets held onto the 6-3 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- McNair recorded two hits in the ballgame. He finished the game 2-for-4 (two singles)
- Penna and Kimbrough finished the game with a double each.
- The R-MC pitching staff recorded 14 strikeouts in the contest.Â
- Chayton Gray tossed four scoreless innings, while allowing only a lone hit, in relief.

Rhodes will be back in action Sun., Feb. 9th, as they face the Huntingdon College Hawks. First pitch to begin a doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
