Jackson, Miss. - Rhodes College men's basketball scored more than double their first half points during the final 20 minutes at Millsaps College Friday night, but the Majors hung on for the 84-77 victory.
A seven-point run in the first half put Millsaps up by 17 points with 4:35 left before the break. The Lynx countered with six points in a row but the Majors finished the first half with a 14-point advantage (38-24).
Rhodes opened the second half on a 15-2 run in the first seven minutes, cutting Millsaps' lead to one point (40-39). After some back and forth play, Millsaps scored seven in a row to go up by nine before the Lynx clawed back to within three with 4:43 to play. Kevin Shen with 30 seconds left closed the gap to seven.
Koki Wiley recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. It's his second time earning a double-double in three games and fourth time in five games to score 20 or more points. Fellow first year
Jalen Essick also tallied double digits with 10 points and added five rebounds as well.
The Lynx scored 53 points in the second half going 17-of-29 (58.62%) after securing 24 points in the first half while shooting 34.62%. Rhodes struggled from long range, securing three of 12 three-point attempts. Millsaps held a 45-34 rebounding advantage and went 11-of-30 from three-point range.
Rhodes travels to Birmingham-Southern on Sunday with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
