Lynx Open SAA with 21-6 Victory over BSC

Birmingham, Ala. - Rhodes College women's lacrosse started scoring early in their 21-6 conference-opening victory at Birmingham-Southern College. 

The Lynx opened the game with five straight goals in the first five minutes of the game. Emily Bruner scored first less than two minutes after the first whistle. Baylee Barker scored back-to-back goals the latter coming immediately after the fourth draw control. With Rhodes leading 5-0, BSC went on a 3-2 run with Rhodes holding a 7-3 advantage with 14:05 left in the first frame. The Lynx scored another five goals in a row before BSC ended the half with a goal to give Rhodes a 12-4 halftime advantage. 

The Lynx held the Panthers scoreless for the first 16 minutes of the second half while Rhodes added eight goals during that time span. BSC finished the game with two goals while the Lynx tallied another goal with six minutes left. 

Aidan Pike led Rhodes with six goals and one assist for seven points while Payton Bennett tallied five goals. Barker tallied six points on three goals and three assists while leading the game with seven draw controls and three caused turnovers. Madison Rubino also tallied a hat trick while Carina Wesker recorded two goals and Aubrey Gray one goal. Pike also led the Lynx with four ground balls.

In goal, Lauren Lazure made seven saves and Mallika Rau one while Alexus Howard recorded 20 saves for BSC.

Rhodes is back home on Wednesday in another non-conference matchup. The Lynx will host Roanoke at 4 p.m. at Mason Field.
