Nashville, Tenn. - It was a chilly 35 degrees in Nashville as the Rhodes College women's lacrosse team took on the No. 8-ranked Washington & Lee Generals on the campus of Harpeth Hall Wednesday night.
The Generals overtook the Lynx early on their way to a 22-4 victory. Rhodes, who has played against three ranked teams so far this season, is now 2-2 on the year.
Just as the game began, heavy snowfall fell over the field along with wind gusts, which didn't phase the native Virginia team who opened the game with back-to-back goals.
Baylee Barker scored for the Lynx to cut W&L's lead to two before the Generals posted six consecutive goals.
Rhodes ended the scoring run on a
Payton Bennett goal before W&L led 11-2. After the Generals picked up a yellow card for slashing,
Aidan Pike scored on the man-up situation with 6:30 left in the first half. W&L finished hte half with a 14-3 lead. The Generals opened the second half with five straight goals before Bennett scored the final Lynx goal with 15:32 left to play. W&L scored three goals in the final 12:30 to finish the game.
Overall, the Lynx committed 22 turnovers and went 12-of-21 in clears while the Generals held a 44-12 shot advantage.
Lauren Lazure made nine saves in goal for Rhodes which included stuffing W&L's Caitlin Anderson on a one-v-one situation after Anderson intercepted a Lynx clear attempt. In relief,
Emma Bradley made four saves.
The Lynx hit the road again this weekend to open conference play at Birmingham-Southern on Saturday. First draw is set for noon.
