Memphis - Rhodes College women's basketball trailed 10-8 in the first quarter before posting a 17-2 run to the quarter, which sparked a 97-53 victory over Hendrix College on Senior Day.
A 15-point run in the second quarter, which included four three-pointers, pushed the Lynx to a 45-21 lead with 4:50 left in the first half. By halftime Rhodes led the Warriors 50-32 after shooting 48.6 percent in the field which included 11 treys on 24 attempts (45.8%).
In the third quarter,
Kiera Downey sank all six field goal attempts included two three-pointers to score 14 points. The Lynx held a 23-14 advantage over the 10-minute span while shooting 62.8 percent in the field. The Lynx offense continued to dominate in the fourth quarter out-scoring the Warriors 24-7.
Downey led the game with 25 points going 5-of-8 from three-point range, playing in the first three quarters. Senior
Alyssa Owens also hit 20 points going 5-of-10 from the arc. She led the game alongside
Taya Lee with eight rebounds while Owens also added four assists. Other double-digit scorers included
Ellen Hagen (14),
Caroline Taylor (13) and
Alli Mayeux (12). Mayeux and
Maya Longacre both tallied six rebounds while Longacre also recorded three blocks.
After the final victory of the regular season the Lynx stand 15-9 overall and 10-4 in conference play, earning second place in the Southern Athletic Association final standings. In his first year as head coach,
Rodney Rogan and the Lynx have earned the most conference regular season victories in the last six years when now athletic director
Matt Dean guided the Lynx to a 13-1 conference season.
Rhodes will host Sewanee in the SAA quarterfinals next weekend. More details will be released by Monday.
