Birmingham, Ala. - At the end of the second day of the 2020 Southern Athletic Association Championships, the Rhodes women's swimming and diving team is in third place with 248 points behind No. 2 Centre (283) and BSC (315). The men's team sits in fourth place with 174 points behind BSC (343), CEntre (281) and Berry (240).
In the afternoon,
Elizabeth McAninch placed fourth in the diving section with 331.60 points.
Freshman
Nancy Hulslander kicked off the evening events with a third place finish in the 500 free. Her time of 5:07.84 was three seconds fast than her prelim time in the morning and is the third fastest time in program history. On the men's side, Ryan Folk dominated the consolation finals, also swimming the third fastest time in program history with his time of 4:46.67. In the morning, Folk swam an eight-second PR before swimming another seven seconds faster in the evening.
The Lynx posted four school records to end the second day of the conference championships. In the 50 free, senior
Madi Griffin broker her own record by .01 seconds to win the event in 23.82 seconds. Afterwards, junior Harrison Rozman posted a 21.01 second 50 free, where he earned third place besting his new personal record from the morning session by .27 seconds. Also in the 50 free, Evan Ziolkowski placed sixth in a new PR of 21.3 seconds, now the third best in program history.
Rhodes concluded the night with second place marks in both the men's and women's 200 free relays. Hulslander,
Mary Beth Baker, Griffin and
Mia Harris combined for a time of 1:35.92, beating last year's NCAA invite time. The men's team of Zac Gammons, Rozman, Arrington Moses and Ziolkowski broke the record in 1:24.87.
Day three prelims
Prelims on Friday start at 10 a.m. with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 400 medley relay followed by finals in the men's 3-meter diving. The evening will kick off with men's 3-meter diving awards at 5:45 p.m. before finals begin.
