Memphis - Avery Stansell is from Birmingham, Alabama, where he attended Homewood High School. At Homewood he was a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society and the Beta Club/Math Team.

Avery is an Eagle Scout and he plays the trumpet, having been a member of the Homewood Marching Band. He also served on the Student Government Association.

Homewood finished as the Alabama 6A State Tournament runner-up in 2018 and 2019 with Avery in the lineup. Highlights from Avery's junior golf include first place finishes in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Series, 48th Pigeon Dove Junior Championship, and the AJGO TP Country Club Championship.

Avery plans to pursue a degree in a Math.
