Columbus, Miss. - Rhodes College men's basketball fell to Mississippi University for Women 70-62 in their final non-conference matchup of the season.
It's the third time in four games that the Lynx have shot below .270 from three-point range as Rhodes went 7-of-26 in the game from beyond the arc.
The Lynx led 23-13 with six minutes left in the first half before a 15-4 MUW run closed the half, giving the Owls a one-point halftime advantage. A
Koki Wiley three-pointer tied the game 50-50 with 8:13 to play but a 10-3 run from MUW put the Owls ahead by nine with 4:16 remaining. Rhodes pulled within two after a
Preston Giroux layup with 1:27 to go. Each team failed to score on their next possessions but MUW connected on a three-pointer to lead by five and added another layup and free throw after a defensive rebound from Rhodes' missed shot attempt with 17 seconds left.
Giroux led the game with his first career double-double with 21 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Freshman
Jalen Essick wasn't far from a double-double, registering nine points and eight rebounds. Wiley and
Nick De Feria both totaled nine points as well, each sinking three treys. Wiley added five rebounds and four assists while Giroux also led the team with three steals.
Rhodes returns to Mallory Gymnasium for a four-game home stand, first hosting Millsaps on Friday, Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. followed by Birmingham-Southern on Jan. 12.
