Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Centre Overpowers Lynx in Second Half

Memphis - Rhodes men's basketball suffered a 98-76 loss to conference-leader Centre College Sunday afternoon. The win is now the 11th straight for the Colonels who are now 18-2 on the season and 8-1 in conference play. Rhodes drops to 5-15 and 2-7 in the SAA.

After a Koki Wiley three-pointer tied the game 14-14, Centre tallied seven straight points to take the lead for good. The Colonels led by 13 with 1:42 remaining in the half before the Lynx cut that lead to nine on consecutive baskets. The two teams traded buckets and another three from Wiley pulled Rhodes within eight, but a tip-in off a missed three at the buzzer gave Centre a 10-point lead (46-36) at halftime.

Rhodes cut Centre's lead to four after an 8-2 run which included a Jalen Essick dunk. The Colonels responded to the dunk by going on a 20-6 run which included 11 consecutive points from Perry Ayers. Ayers tallied 13 of those 20 points which included three treys in a row.

Wiley led Rhodes with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. Owen Galvin got the start today and went 9-of-11 for a season-high 18 points while Essick rounded out double-digit scoring with 12 points. Mac James led the game with three steals and Jake Nestlehutt totaled nine points and five rebounds.

Centre's Art Walker led the game with 23 points, earning his 1,000th career point.

Rhodes will host Berry on Friday at 8 p.m. followed by Oglethorpe on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Lynx then hit the road for a pair of games at Millsaps and BSC before returning to Memphis to host Hendrix for Senior Day on February 15 at 4 p.m.
