Women's Basketball Surges Past Sewanee

Memphis - Alli Mayeux recorded a career-high seven treys and 26 points en route to a Rhodes women's basketball 98-59 victory over the Sewanee Tigers. The Lynx are now 11-7 on the season and still in second place in the Southern Athletic Association standings with a 6-2 record.
 
Rhodes broke open the game early and led 21-3, which included 14 straight points, until the Tigers hit a three-pointer with six seconds left in the first quarter. After shooting .563 in the first frame, the Lynx continued their hot streak, shooting .583 in the second quarter going 7-of-12. Rhodes led 45-27 at halftime.

The Lynx edged Sewanee 22-18 in the third quarter shooting .462 and sinking five of seven three-point attempts. Rhodes then averaged above 50 percent in the fourth quarter once again and made 14 of 18 free throws as the Lynx scored 31 points compared to Sewanee's 14 points. In the game, the Lynx went 30-of-56 in the field (.533), 12-of-23 from three-point range (.522), and 26-of-35 from the free throw line (.743). The Lynx also tallied a 44-23 rebounding advantage over the Tigers.

Mayeux went 4-of-6 from long range in the first half on her way to 16 points before she secured 3-of-4 treys in the second half for 10 points. She also grabbed six rebounds and tallied two blocks. Maya Longacre recorded a career-high 5 blocks against the Tigers while also grabbing six rebounds. She has an average of 3.5 blocks over the last four games. 

Freshman Taya Lee led the game with a career-high seven rebounds while a total of five Lynx hit double digits in the game. Alongside Mayeux were Caroline Taylor (17- career-high), Alexys Mathangani (13- career-high), Kiera Downey (11), and Alyssa Owens (10). Ellen Hagan, Owens and Taylor each also dished out four assists. 

Ninety-eight points scored is a season-high for the Lynx who scored 93 against Belhaven in November. Rhodes has now hit 10 or more three-pointers in 11 games this year and have averaged .838 at the free throw line in their last four games. 

Rhodes will now host Centre College at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 26.
