Rebounding and Three-Point Shooting Rolls Lynx Over Sewanee

Memphis - Rhodes College women's basketball won their fifth conference game after rolling over Sewanee 83-54, earning the only conference road victory on the night. The win sends the Lynx to 10-6 on the year and 5-1 in conference play and is their sixth in the last seven games. Sewanee is now 6-11 and 1-5 in the SAA.

Rhodes jumped out to a 6-0 lead before taking an 11-point advantage in the first quarter. A seven-point run towards the end of the second quarter put the Lynx up by 18 points before Rhodes led 34-18 at halftime. The Lynx scored 16 points in the first quarter and 18 points in the second quarter. Rhodes held a 22-point lead during most of the third quarter. A 10-3 run in the middle of the fourth quarter gave the Lynx a 29-point advantage. The fourth quarter was the first time a team went to the foul line for bonus shots. 

Rhodes shot over 40 percent from three-point range in each quarter, going 5-of-8 from long range in the fourth frame (62.5%). The Lynx went 15-of-31 in the game from the arc, shooting .484, both second best stats on the season. Rhodes shot over 53 percent in the first and fourth quarters overall in the field. The Lynx went 10-of-10 in free throws, shooting their best of the season.

Sewanee went 5-of-25 from three-point range and shot 33.3% in the field overall. The Lynx held a 46-29 rebounding advantage and picked up two blocks from Maya Longacre on Rhodes' way to four on the night. Longacre also tallied seven rebounds while freshman Taya Lee picked up a career-high and game-leading eight rebounds. 

Four Lynx earned double digits in the game as Alyssa Owens recorded 16 points with four rebounds and three steals. Owens (4-of-7) and Libby Long (4-of-8) both recorded four treys as Long and Alexys Mathangani tallied 12 points. Mathangani added five rebounds to her career-high points while Long totaled four rebounds and three assists. Ellen Hagen recorded 15 points and two steals for the Lynx which included sinking all three shots from behind the arc.

Rhodes will travel to Centre in their final match-up of the first half of the conference season on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
