Women's Swimming and Diving Places Second at WashU Invite

St. Louis, Mo. - Rhodes College women's swimming and diving came away with five individual victories as well as one relay win to place second of five teams at the WashU in St. Louis Invite. The men won one individual event, for a combined seven wins for the Lynx.

The Lynx totaled 471.5 points while the hosts and No. 9-ranked Bears won the even with 953.5 points. In third was NCAA Division II University of Missouri-St. Louis (393), followed by DII Maryville University (191) and NAIA Williams Baptist University (23). 

Highlights of the day included sophomore Sinead Eksteen who broke two pool records during the meet in the 200 free (1:52.21) and 500 free (4:57.47). Her 500 free time was 17 seconds faster than the next competitor and she still holds the top time in all of NCAA Division III in the event from the Sewanee Igloo Invite. 

Besides Eksteen, Nancy Hulslander tied for first place in the 50 free (25.34 seconds), Mia Harris won the 100 fly (58.48 seconds) and Madi Griffin won the 100 free in 54.46 seconds. The winning 200 free relay team of Griffin, Mary Beth Baker, Eksteen and Harris finished the race in 1:40.91. The women's 400 free relay finished second by less than one second and consisted of Eksteen, Baker, Griffin and Hulslander.

For the men, who placed fourth with 246 points, Evan Ziolkowski won the 200 free by 1/10 of a second (1:43.82).

Rhodes will face Maryville University in a dual meet on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parkway North High School. Maryville placed just above the Lynx on Friday with 290 points.
