Newport News, Va. - Rhodes College field hockey traveled by air this weekend to take on No. 14-ranked Christopher Newport Saturday. The Lynx succumbed to the Captains 4-1. CNU is now 7-2 overall and the Lynx are now 3-3 on the year.
CNU pressured the Lynx early and recorded four shots in the first five minutes of the game with only one of those going wide. Senior goalkeeper
Nina Migneco stood her ground, making all three saves on her way to nine in the game. The Captains crossed the goal line first in the final minute of the first quarter before
Hailey Mules tied the game five minutes into the second quarter. CNU would score their game-winner two minutes later and add the final goal in the 34th minute, their only shot of the third quarter.
Neither team would score for the final 27 minutes despite the two squads rattling off 11 shots. The Lynx defense recorded three defensive saves from
Meghan Harmon,
Daryl Perry and
Elizabeth Vernon.
CNU out shot Rhodes 26-9 in the game and edged the Lynx 8-6 in penalty corners.
Rhodes will play their final non-conference opponent of the regular season Sunday. The neutral-site matchup on CNU's campus against Mary Washington is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
