Memphis – Rhodes College Cross Country hosted their annual Rhodes Invitational at Shelby Farms Park over the weekend. This year, teams featured mostly NCAA Division I teams for the American Athletic Conference Championship preview and NCAA Division III teams for the South/Southeast Regional preview.

The Lynx men raced to seventh place out of 21 teams represented. Rhodes was the third DIII team in the lineup, behind Emory (fourth) and Southern Athletic Association rival Oglethorpe (sixth). The Lynx were just 14 seconds behind the Stormy Petrels. The Lynx were led by Toler Freyaldenhoven who placed 19th overall and was the second DIII runner to cross the finish line with a time of 25:23.1. Jared Briant (26:16.1) was the next fastest Lynx, followed by Ben Hazelwood (26:30.2), Benjamin Freeman (26:58.5) and Mark Ellenberger (27:18.4) to round out the top five. Briant and Hazelwood both ran personal bests in the 8k as did Ben Griffith.

The Lynx women placed ninth even without top runner Elise Moix able to finish despite running in the top-15 throughout most of the race. Rhodes' top scorer was Maryella Cohn (22:51.7), followed by the top five of Anna Littleton (23:07), Lauren Roberts (24:07.1), Kate Freyaldenhoven (24:23.6) and Abby Polzin (24:31.8). Cohn's 6k time is a new personal best by about 40 seconds while Polzin's is a PR of about 35 seconds. Junior Hannah Surmon ran to a personal best by about 90 seconds.
