Memphis - Rhodes College volleyball fell to Centre College Saturday afternoon in three sets, taking the Lynx to 7-6 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. Centre improves to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The visiting Colonels outlasted the Lynx 26-24 in an exciting first set. The Lynx answered multiple runs by the Colonels to push the match into extra points. In the second set, Rhodes was unable to overcome Centre scoring six consecutive points to extend their lead to 19-11 before finishing the set 25-16. The third and final set of the game began with the Lynx jumping out to a 3-0 lead before extending their lead to 9-5. The Colonels caught up to the Lynx at 12-12 before taking a 19-12 advantage. Rhodes was able to climb back into the game at 21-17, but were unable to complete their comeback before the Colonels clinched the game at 25-20.
Leading Rhodes in two categories was senior Emily Korba who garnered 10 kills and three blocks. Junior setter Sarah Neiland led with 14 assists while sophomore libero Marissa Hall paced the Lynx with 15 digs. Junior Annie Burke led the Lynx with two aces.
Rhodes will finish the weekend home stand at noon on Sunday vs. the Sewanee Tigers inside Mallory Gymnasium.
