Memphis - It was a tough battle on the Lynx soccer field Saturday afternoon as Rhodes women's soccer fell to 6-2 on the season after a 2-0 loss to the University of Texas at Dallas. UT-Dallas is still undefeated with seven wins on the season.
After Rhodes earned their third corner kick in the 18th minute, the Comets rallied for a goal in the 20th minute. A loose cross went through the middle of the box before it was picked up and put into the back of the net for the game-winning goal. The two teams would continue to send dangerous crosses into the box with a halftime score of UT-Dallas 1-0.
In the second half, Rhodes' offense threatened heavily as the Lynx connected on nine shots compared to one in the first half. The Lynx thought they tied the game in the 54th minute after
Katelyn Curtis toed in the ball at the goal line off a corner from
Taylor Ryan. The goal was waved off after the Lynx were called for offsides. In the 60th minute off another corner,
Ayanna Kemp's shot attempt hit the crossbar.
The Comets scored the final goal of the game in the 69th minute off a corner directed to the middle of the box.
Overall Rhodes held a 9-5 corner advantage including six in the second half. UT-Dallas edged Rhodes 12-10 in shots and
Abby Roevens made three saves in goal for the Lynx.
Rhodes will host Southwest Tennessee Community College in an exhibition Tuesday before opening conference play at home on Friday against Millsaps at 1 p.m.
