Memphis - Rhodes College women's soccer is now 6-1 on the year after defeating Huntingdon College 3-1 in a rare mid-week matchup.
After each team earned one shot, freshman
Anya Ranaraja was fouled inside the box, drawing a penalty shot for senior
Katelyn Curtis near the end of the 13th minute. Curtis' attempt was saved by Huntingdon's Courtney Dye, but the captain wrapped up the rebound to net her first goal of the season. The Lynx held a slim 2-1 shot on goal advantage for the remainder of the first half.
Just three minutes into the second half (49th minute), Ranaraja drew another foul, this time just inside the top of the box. Junior
Liz Vega put the penalty shot away, her first goal of the season. Huntingdon cut Rhodes' lead to one on a soft touch to the back post in the 62nd minute, but Ranaraja found fellow freshman
Sarah DiLuzio in the middle of the box less than three minutes later to put the Lynx up by two once again. It was DiLuzio's first collegiate goal.
Rhodes outshot Huntingdon 17-9 but the Hawks held a slim 7-6 corner kick advantage. Dye made seven saves for the Hawks while Rhodes'
Abby Roevens totaled three including two in the second half.
The Lynx are back in action at home on Saturday when they take on UT-Dallas at 4:30 p.m.
