Memphis - Rhodes College football suffered a shutout loss to Rose-Hulman Institiute of Technology under the lights Saturday. The Lynx drop to 0-2 on the year while the Fightin' Engineers are now 1-1.
RHIT received the ball to start the game and converted a touchdown on their first drive before missing the extra point attempt. The kickoff was returned 22 yards by
C.J. Laws for the Lynx offense to take the field for the first time. The first completion, a 38-yard pass to
Andrew Herring put the Lynx in RHIT's territory, but a false start and eventual sack forced the Lynx to punt. Rhodes had 1st and 10 on RHIT's 25 yard line on their second drive of the game after a 19-yard completion to
Charlie Mackey. RHIT ended the offensive threat of the Lynx with an interception and 97-yard return to take a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter
Bobby Bailey forced an RHIT fumble, and a loss of five yards to begin a drive which resulted in a Lynx fair catch.
The Fightin' Engineers marched down the field to start the second quarter which resulted in their third touchdown of the night. The 13-play drive for 77 yards included eight rushes and three pass completions on four attempts. For Rhodes,
Tre' Barnes made a tackle, setting RHIT back three yards. Rhodes was forced to punt on their next drive before RHIT added the final touchdown of the game.
Adam Martinez made a 25-yard return for the Lynx right before the half.
RHIT led 27-0 at halftime. The Lynx held the Fightin' Engineers to a field goal in the second half which occurred on a 12-play drive near the end of the third quarter. Rhodes started their final drive of the game with 5:31 left. The Lynx drove the ball 44 yards, forcing RHIT to use a timeout with 1:11 remaining. An RHIT passing interference call gave the Lynx 1st & 10 as time was winding down.
James Moskosky made an eight-yard completion and stepped out of bounds at RHIT's 10 yard line with four seconds remaining. Rhodes' final scoring attempt ended the game on an incomplete pass.
Stephan Jean-Francois led Rhodes with 52 yards rushing on three attempts, which included one for 27 yards. Herring's 38 yard catch was the longest for the Lynx while Noah Thomas made eight receptions for 119 yards including a 47-yard completion.

Tre' Barnes,
Kobe Bins,
Brycen Brown and
Parker Rye all tallied seven tackles.
D'On Coofer led the Lynx with two tackles for a loss of four yards while
Jordan McCoy recorded the longest loss of six yards on a tackle. Defensive breakups for the Lynx came from
Jacob Andersen, who also recorded six tackles, and
Micah Battle.
Freshman
Fred Jackson made five punts for 233 yards, averaging 46.6 yards per punt. He totaled two over 50 yards, with his longest of the night measuring 66 yards.
The Lynx are back in action Saturday, September 21 at Millsaps at 7 p.m.
