Conway, Ark. - Rhodes College men's soccer picked up their first win of the season, coming from behind to down Huntingdon 4-3 in overtime.
The Huntingdon Hawks took a 2-0 lead before Rhodes netted their first goal of the season. After a corner chance was missed, the Lynx earned another corner immediately afterwards with freshman
Maxwell Hughes bending the ball into the far post from the corner. The Lynx trailed 2-1 at halftime before sophomore
Travis Tuerff tied the game in the 70th minute. After a one-touch pass from
Ben Tang to the middle of the box, Tuerff stretched out to get the ball past the Hawks diving goalkeeper before Tuerff left-footed the ball into the net to tie the game.
Six and a half minutes later Tuerff gave the Lynx a 3-2 advantage. His cross deflected off a Hawks defender before landing into the back of the net. A free kick for Huntingdon led to a goal to tie the game once more with three minutes left in the game.
Into extra minutes, freshman
Ben Barfield dribbled the ball down the sideline and eluded a defender before launching the ball into the middle of the box. Tuerff settled the ball and secured the game-winner 1:22 into overtime for the win.Â
The Lynx, now 1-1, will return home to host the Volgas Memorial Tournament. This year the Lynx will play UT-Dallas and Austin College with Hendrix coming into town as well. The Lynx open against UT-Dallas at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 2:30 p.m. game on Sunday against Austin College.
