Birmingham, Ala. - Rhodes College volleyball made it three wins in a row on opening weekend after sweeping Covenant Sunday 3-0.
The Lynx were led by
Heather Antrim (10 kills),
Kelsey Glasper (9 kills),
Rachel Sullivan (3 blocks),
Marissa Hall (15 assists) and
Mary Frances Daniel (14 digs). Freshman
Annie Entz also tallied 12 digs and seven kills.
Improving to 3-0 on the season under first year head coach
Taylor Gibson, Rhodes picked up the 25-21 first set victory thanks to an early five-point run which gave the Lynx a 10-5 advantage. Covenant tied the game 13-13, never to take the lead. Glasper closed out the game with three kills for the 22nd, 23rd and 25th points.
In the second set, after five ties and a two-point deficit, the Lynx rallied for six-point run to lead 13-9 until the Scots retaliated with six points themselves. The teams tied at 17, 21 and 23 points until a Covenant attack error and service ace from Daniel put Rhodes ahead 2-0.
In the third set, Rhodes led 18-17 until six straight points gave the Lynx enough room to earn the sweep.
Rhodes will head to Mount Berry, Ga. nex weekend for four games in the Berry National Tournament. The Lynx will face Endicott and Transylvania on Friday before getting a second look at Transylvania and Covenant on Sunday. All games are scheduled to be streamed live
