Volleyball Holds On for Night Cap Victory; Opens the Season 2-0

Birmingham, Ala. - After leading 2-1 in the night cap, Rhodes volleyball went up 22-17 in the fourth set against LaGrange before the Panthers came back to tie the game 23-all. LaGrange earned each of the next three point advantages until the Lynx put away the game, scoring three straight points to win 28-26. Rhodes opened the 2019 season with their second win of the day after a service ace from Annie Burke put Rhodes ahead by one, before a Panther attack error sealed the win.

Against LaGrange, senior Emily Korba tallied 14 kills, totaling a .306 hitting average to lead the Lynx. Mary Frances Daniel tallied 26 digs while Kelsey Glasper recorded 13 digs. Freshman Annie Entz narrowly missed a double double after totaling 13 kills and nine digs. Senior Heather Antrim also recorded double digit kills with 12 while Marissa Hall (20) and Burke (19) led the team in assists.

The Lynx opened the day with a sweep of Brevard, earning first year head coach Taylor Gibson her first career victory. The Lynx won 25-14, 25-13, 25-18 after Antrim and Entz both tallied nine kills. Korba led the team in accuracy at the net with eight kills and a .444 hitting percentage. Daniel led the team again with 20 digs while Glasper gathered up 19. The Lynx totaled 10 block assists and one solo block with that lone block coming from freshman Gabrielle White.

Rhodes will finish the Birmingham-Southern Invitational with a game against Covenant on Saturday at 3 p.m.
