Houston, Texas - Rhodes College women's golf placed sixth at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas while senior
Emily Salamy placed third individually, her first-ever national top-10 finish.
Rhodes came into the national championship as the No. 7 seed, defeating No. 1 Carleton, No. 2 George Fox and No. 4 Grinnell. The Lynx recorded scores of 319-318-312-299 to finish 96-over par with a total score of 1248. Rhodes was one stroke ahead of Carleton and George Fox and one stroke behind DePauw.
"I'm really proud of our team for effort in the last round of shooting our best round of the tournament," said head coach
Mike Clary. "The fourth round score of 299, was better than any of our rounds in 2017 when we won the national championship. It was a lot of fun for everyone at Bay Oaks to have Emily vying for the individual national championship. She's had a great career and is one of Rhodes' all-time best players."
Salamy alternated rounds of 74-75-74-75 to score 298 in the four-day 72 hole championship, two strokes out from the leader. She totaled 11 birdies and one eagle in the tournament. In the final round, Salamy completed the front nine three-under par before finishing the day three-over par.Â
Freshman
Susan Morris moved up 10 spots to tie for 22nd place after a third round score of 75 (three-over par). She totaled 311 on the week (78-76-82-75), shooting 23-over par with eight birdies.Â
Sophomore
Tabitha Diehl moved up 18 positions to tie for 47th, shooting her best in the final round (75). Diehl totaled four birdies including two in the fourth round. She finished 31-over par ( 82-84-78-75 = 319).Â
Senior
Melissa Kiker also saved her best for last, firing a 74 to lead the Lynx in the final round. Kiker moved up 19 spots to tie for 64th at 39-over par (91-83-79-74= 327). She recorded her first birdie of the tournament on the second hole of the final round before finishing with three birdies on the week.Â
Sophomore
Annie Paris placed 66th (85-88-81-76 = 330), also carding her best performance of the week in Friday's final round. Paris totaled four birdies, two in each of the final two rounds, to help the Lynx to a top-10 finish.
New York University overtook Williams College in the final round to win the team championship at 65-over par. NYU shot 294 in the final round (six-over par), shooting the round-low of the championship, moving up three positions to earn the win. Cordelia Chan from Williams College won the individual championship at eight-over par (296) after firing a final round of 72. In second place, Arshia Mahant's fourth round score of 69 was the low for the tournament, helping her to nine-over par on the week.
Rhodes who were national champions in 2014, 2016 and 2017, will lose Kiker and Salamy to graduation.
