Game Recap: Baseball |

York's Grand Slam Helps Catapult Lynx to Comeback Victory over Centre

Memphis - Rhodes College baseball found themselves down 7-2 to Centre College in the first game of a doubleheader at Stauffer Field as all nine runs were scored in the fourth inning. In the sixth, Centre scored five more before the Lynx tallied three in the bottom half of the inning to trail 13-5 after the Colonels scored one run in the eighth. The Lynx plated eight runs in the eighth to tie the game before a walk-off walk and wild pitch scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. Centre then took game two 4-2. The two teams hope to finish the series on Sunday at noon.

Game One
Three Lynx came to the plate twice in the eighth inning as the Lynx scored eight runs on four hits, four walks, a hit by pitch and a fielder's choice. With Rhodes trailing 13-9, freshman Peter York, who walked to lead off the inning, erupted the Lynx bench as he hit his first career grand slam to tie the game. York recorded a career-high five RBI and three runs scored in the game. He leads the Lynx with three home runs on the year.

Carter King entered the game in the sixth and picked up the win after striking out four in 3.2 innings of work. Jacob Telli went 4-for-4 at the plate while freshman John McNair also scored three times.

Game Two
After tallying 13 hits in the first game, Rhodes was held to three hits in the second game. Drew Shacht, who suffered the loss in game one, went 3-for-4 for the Colonels while Chris Esselman tallied three RBI on a home run in the third inning to score the winning run. Rhodes' only multi-base hit came from freshman Wood Kimbrough on his long shot over the left center field. He drove in Telli who led off the sixth with a single to right field. Trey Sledge suffered the loss.
