Nicholasville, Ky. - Rhodes College men's tennis went up 2-1 after doubles to eventually defeat Centre College 7-2 Sunday.
In doubles,
Frank Stich and
Alex Lloyd teamed up for the first win at 8-3 before Centre tied the match with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. Ritwick Chatterjee and
Phil Lauture then teamed up to give the Lynx the advantage headed into singles with their 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Lauture won in his first appearance at No. 1 singles (7-6 (5), 6-3) while
P.J. Shaw took No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3. The Lynx were winning 4-2 when
Sairam Gudiseva won decision at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-2).
Sean Hogan also won at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0 and
Alex Lloyd made a comeback to take down his opponent 7-6 (8), 6-2. Lloyd held off five set points down 1-6 in his first tie-breaker and another at 6-7 before he won 10-8.
Rhodes closes out the regular season with a four-game home stand which begins this weekend against Birmingham-Southern (Saturday) and Millsaps (Sunday). Both matches begin at 9 a.m.
