Memphis - Up 5-1 over Wellesley College, the Blue scored back-to-back goals before Rhodes College women's lacrosse went on a 7-1 run to take a 12-4 halftime advantage. Rhodes would go on to score seven goals on nine shots in the second half, defeating Wellesley 19-8 to win their sixth straight game.
Rhodes won the majority of the early draw controls and maintained a disciplined ride in the first half to help achieve their eight-goal lead at the half. The Lynx came out on a 6-1 run to lead 18-5 before Wellesley scored three straight, including a man-up goal. Freshman
Baylee Barker tallied her 50th goal of the season to end scoring with 8:15 left in the game.Â
Barker finished with six points, including four goals on four shots. She also recorded four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior midfielder
Madison Rubino had a great game, totaling the game-high five goals on six shots, with one assist, three ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover.
Payton Bennett also scored four goals on four shots while
Annika Hedlund totaled five points including the game-high three assists.
Defensively,
Daly Colarossi led the game with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. In goal,
Lauren Lazure made nine saves including a one-vs-one situation after a failed clear allowed Wellesley to shoot point blank on the junior.Â
Rhodes, who is now 8-3 on the year, will look ahead to a big conference matchup on Saturday, March 30. The Lynx will host Centre College at noon, both of which are the only teams with undefeated SAA records (3-0).Â
