Sewanee, Tenn. - Rhodes College women's lacrosse defeated Sewanee on the road 14-10 after holding an 8-2 halftime lead. Rhodes improves to 7-3 on the year, for their fifth straight win. The Lynx are 3-0 in conference while Sewanee is now 8-6 on the year and 2-1 in conference.
The Lynx took advantage of 16 Tiger turnovers in the first half, allowing the Lynx to hold a 20-11 shot advantage. The Lynx scored the first four goals of the game before taking their six-point lead at the break. In the second half,
Madison Rubino scored to put Rhodes up 11-6, but three straight Sewanee goals cut that lead to two with 14:05 to play. Rhodes responded with three of their own to hold off the Tigers and ensure the victory.
For Rhodes,
Annika Hedlund led the team with seven points, compiling three goals and four assists.
Baylee Barker led all goal-scorers with five goals while
Payton Bennett also tallied five points with two goals and three assists. On the defensive side,
Hannah Swinerton tallied a career-high six ground balls with
Lauren Lazure making eight saves.
Izzy Parker led the Lynx with five draw controls while Barker recorded four.
Rhodes returns to Memphis for two games, hosting Wellesley at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, followed by another big conference game on Saturday, March 30 when Centre comes to town.
