Memphis - Rhodes College baseball suffered a 4-2 loss to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UWO) before defeating the Titans 9-3 to end the day.
Game One
Rhodes got on the board with two runs in the third inning. After a leadoff walk,
Ben Wilson singled on a bunt to the pitcher and advanced to second on a throwing error. With runners on second and third,
Jon Michael Lauck laid down a sac bunt to score the first run. A groundout scored Wilson as the Lynx led 2-0. A passed ball and sac fly plated one run for UWO in the fourth before a home run which hit the roof of the hitting facility in dead center tied the game in the fifth. Starting pitcher
Jacob Dubs pitched six innings and struck out 10 Titans before leaving the game with the score tied. Three hits, a balk and a stolen base scored the final two runs of the game in the eighth.
Nathan Mirochnick suffered the loss after he struck out three in two innings. Neither Lynx pitcher allowed a walk. UWO's Colan Tremi pitched the complete game with eight strikeouts.
Game Two
Once again the Lynx scored first after two singles and a groundout put
Zach Liebenson on third.
Will Heurtin recorded the first RBI on a fielder's choice to second base. In his first start since opening weekend,
Trey Sledge struck out three Titans over the first two innings on his way to earning the win. Heurtin again tallied an RBI on a fielder's choice to second. Then Rhodes took a 3-0 lead after two singles, a wild pitch and a groundout scored
Ryan Palermo on a
Nick Bosma hit deep to the shortstop. In the sixth, each team scored a run before
Matt Dale was brought to the mound for the Lynx. He earned the save after striking out three Titans across three innings. Another run in the seventh gave Rhodes a 5-1 lead.
A leadoff walk helped UWO score in the eighth, but the Lynx scored four more runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-2 advantage. During the inning, freshman
Peter York doubled down the right field line and after two Lynx walks, with the bases loaded,
Jacob Telli was hit by a pitch to plate one run. Heurtin then doubled down the right field line as well to score two runs. With a new pitcher in place, Palermo hit a sac fly to center for the final Lynx run of the game. UWO would score a final run in the ninth. UWO used eight pitchers in the loss. Heurtin recorded four RBI and two walks. Telli went two-of-two with two walks while Liebenson, who also walked twice, scored three runs. Wilson tripled in the sixth.
