Lynx Win Season-Opener Over Univ. of West Georgia

Memphis - Rhodes College women's tennis opened their 2019 spring season with a 5-4 victory over the University of West Georgia. The Lynx won the match on a cold evening at the Dunavant Tennis Complex when senior Caroline Doherty defeated her opponent at No. 4-singles. After taking the first set 6-4, she pulled through with the 7-5 second set victory to send the Lynx into the warm BCLC.

Michelle Adan-Pol and Dasha Safarian teamed up for a win at No. 1-doubles, 8-3. Doherty and teammate Julia Darkey fell 8-4 in the second slot, but Kate McGough and Dallas Bennett took home doubles for the Lynx with their 8-4 win.

Darkey was beating her opponent 5-2 before she suffered an injury to tie the game. Adan-Pol wiped her opponent clean at No. 1-singles in the second set to give Rhodes a 3-2 edge before West Georgia's No. 6 singles player went down after Tricia Sculco was leading 7-6. The Lynx fell at the second and fifth singles matches on 10-point tiebreakers before Doherty sealed the win.

The Lynx will travel to Ouachita Baptist Saturday for a 3 p.m. match in Arkadelphia, Ark.
