Birmingham, Ala. - Rhodes men's basketball fell to Birmingham-Southern 71-66 Friday night. The Lynx came up short after holding a one-point lead with 3:16 to play.
BSC took an 11-point lead midway through the first half, but the Lynx came back and went up by one before the Panthers led 35-34 at halftime.
BSC led by eight in the second half before
Vaughn Samson came into the game and scored seven points for Rhodes in two minutes to tie the game 58-all.
Bryce Berry gave the Lynx their first lead of the second half after gathering the defensive rebound, going coast-to-coast for the layup with 5:53 to go.
Two free throws from
Daniel Darst gave Rhodes a 64-63 edge with 3:16 to go. The Panthers managed to get ahead once again after closing the game on an 8-2 run.
Berry, Samson, and
Jake Nestlehutt each scored 12 points while Darst led the Lynx with six rebounds.
Mitch Weatherford and
Mac James both tallied four assists while Berry led the team with four steals. Samson went five-of-six in the game, which included sinking both trey attempts. Nestlehutt made four of his five attempts from long range as the Lynx shot 50% from behind the arc as a team.
With two games left in the regular season, Rhodes travels to Millsaps on Sunday for a 3 p.m. game.
