Lexington, Ky. – Rhodes men's lacrosse improves to 2-1 after a 14-5 non-conference matchup against Transylvania University Saturday afternoon.
Rhodes scored first just 32 seconds into the game when
Andrew Lempner passed from below the goal-line-extended to
Matt Perez all alone at the opposite post.
David Perez then fired a pass down top to
Christian Cisneros at the top of the crease for goal number two. Transy took advantage of a Lynx turnover and scored on a fast break to pull within one as the Lynx led 2-1 after the first quarter.
Isaiah Pratt found Lempner down at the goal line as he scored the first goal of the second quarter on a one-on-one with the goalie. Transy was charged two penalties when
Karl Van Blargan fired a shot from the wing to give Rhodes a 4-1 advantage. During the second quarter,
Cameron Link saved four shots including three on one possession while the Lynx committed seven turnovers, only making three of seven clear attempts. Transy scored with 8.8 seconds left in the half as Rhodes led 4-2.
Rhodes opened the second half with three quick goals before Transy scored their lone goal of the quarter with 6:53 to play. The Lynx headed into the final 15 minutes with a seven-goal advantage.
Alexi Thomas caused a turnover, scooped up the ground ball and sped down the field to find
Christian Cisneros open for a man-down goal to open the fourth quarter. The Pioneers scored twice within 20 seconds, their first multi-goal quarter of the game. Rhodes returned the favor by scoring three consecutive goals in a minute and 10 seconds. Rhodes'
Matt Perez netted the final goal of the game with 1:41 remaining.
The Lynx cleaned up their clearing game, going 12-of-16 in the second half. Overall, Transy posted a 47-43 shot advantage and won 10 of 15 face offs in the second half.
For Rhodes, Link recorded a new program record 21 saves which included nine in the fourth quarter while
Christian Cisneros tallied three goals, three assists and five ground balls.
Matt Perez also recorded a hat trick while
David Perez tallied a goal and three assists. Van Blargan finished the game with two goals as did Lemper and
Ryan Marasco.
Rhodes is scheduled for another away contest when the Lynx travel to Huntingdon College on Wednesday, February 27 at 4 p.m. CST.
