Rhodes College men's basketball fell to Hendrix Saturday 96-69 to close out the regular season with a 5-20 record. The Lynx went 2-12 in conference and will open the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Tournament as the eighth seed, taking on the hosts and No. 1-seeded Centre College. The Colonels are 21-4 overall and went 12-2 in conference.
At Hendrix, Rhodes trailed 43-37 before the Warriors posted a 53-32 second-half advantage.
Mitch Weatherford and
Preston Giroux both led the Lynx with 17 points. Giroux's accuracy continues into the end of the season as the junior made eight-of-nine shots. He is currently ranked third in the league with a 58.9 field goal percentage. Weatherford and
Daniel Darst each tallied five rebounds.
Rhodes turned the ball over 16 times compared to seven from the Warriors.
The SAA Tournament runs Feb. 22-24 in Danville, Ky. Rhodes and Centre will meet in the first game at 1 p.m. ET. The winner will advance and play the winner of No. 4-Oglethorpe vs. No. 5-BSC on Friday at 4 p.m. Fans can see the full bracket at the link above.
