Birmingham, Ala. - Rhodes College swimming and diving had yet another record-breaking day Friday as the Lynx concluded their third day of the Southern Athletic Association Championships.
The Lynx crowned two individual champions in
Lucas Bradford (100 fly) and
Hayden Hill (200 free) and swept the 200 medley relay events! The women's team of
Allie Hill,
Emily Ulmer,
Julia Cronk, and
Madi Griffin brought home first while
Zac Gammons,
Christian Stankovic,
Hayden Hill and
Harrison Rozman won on the men's side.
Hayden Hill's 200 free is a new Rhodes record. He touched the wall 0.03 seconds faster than his closest opponent and finished in 1:40.77, breaking Will Raines' record from 2016. The women's 200 medley relay (1:47.66) was 0.12 seconds away from the championship meet record while the men's (1:33.28) broke a program record, set once already this season. The men were also 0.65 seconds away from the meet and SAA records. Also breaking a Rhodes record was Stankovic in the 100 breast, breaking his own record from 2017.
Rhodes took second, third and fourth in the women's 400 IM as
Carly Good,
Erin Osborne and
Elyse Jacobs made the respective finishes to start the evening competitions. On the men's side,
Roland Chang placed sixth and
Jon Pulaski eighth.
Bradford swam his 100 fly in 51.47 in what ended in a wild finish while Cronk led the women to fourth place in 59.34. Moses Arrington concluded finals in the event with an eighth place finish.
Griffin placed second in the women's 200 free in 1:52.39 while
Evan Ziolkowski placed fifth for the men in 1:42.67.
In the 100 breast, Stankovic's record-breaking 57.24 swim earned him third place while
Richard Gentry placed seventh and
Tanner Martinez eighth. Representing the women was Ulmer with a fifth place time of
After the conclusion of the third day of competition, the Rhodes men and women both sit in second place headed into the final day of the 2019 SAA Championships.
