Memphis - Rhodes College baseball hosted Greenville University on a chilly and wet Friday afternoon in their first home game of the season. The 5-1 loss sends the Lynx to 1-3 to start the season.
Greenville scored two runs in the second inning on two hits and a throwing error and added two more runs in the third on another error and three hits.
Carter King went to the mound in relief with one out. With the bases loaded, he struck out the final two Panthers swinging. Carter then struck out the side in the fourth. He finished the game with seven K's in 4.2 innings of work.
The Panthers scored their final run to take a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning after another Lynx error. Rhodes avoided the shutout with a run in the seventh when
Ryan Palermo led off with a single before he took advantage of a Greenville error and passed ball.
Jake Stacy then drove him in on a single up the middle.
Palermo finished the game three-of-three at the plate with a walk. The Rhodes pitching staff struck out 12 Panthers.
The Lynx will host Greenville in the morning on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by an afternoon game against Fontbonne around 2 p.m.
