Memphis - Rhodes College men's basketball fell to Centre College 79-57 Friday night in a packed Mallory Gymnasium. Centre, who leads the Southern Athletic Association standings, is now 18-3 on the season and 9-1 in conference. The Lynx drop to 4-17 after their fifth straight loss.
Prior to the game, Rhodes honored outgoing four-year seniors
Daniel Darst and
Vaughn Samson. Centre jumped out to a 9-2 advantage and never looked back, as the Colonels led 38-21 at halftime and gained a 28-point lead in the second half, despite only holding a 41-26 second half advantage over Rhodes.
Centre averaged 50% accuracy overall and 31% from long range. The Lynx dramatically improved their shooting accuracy in the second half, making 14-of-26 attempts (53.8%). They finished the game with a 45% field goal percentage and 44.4% from the three-point line, sinking eight of 18 attempts.
On the night, freshman
Brenden McNamara led Rhodes with 10 points, missing just two of his six attempts. Towards the end of the game, sophomore
Tyler Guest connected on his only two three-point attempts.
Rhodes will host their final home game of the season on Sunday at 3 p.m. against Sewanee.
