Conway, Ark. - A 10-point run in the third quarter, followed by a 23-14 fourth quarter advantage, a secured conference-opening victory over Hendrix for Rhodes College women's basketball. Rhodes is now 6-5 on the year while Hendrix, who sits at 2-10, was handed their ninth straight loss.
A Hendrix layup with 5:15 left in the third quarter, put the Warriors within four points as the Lynx led 41-37 until 10 unanswered points from Rhodes opened the game. A 10-3 Lynx run in the fourth quarter added to Rhodes' momentum before the Lynx reached a 20-point lead with 2:53 (73-53) to play.
Downey totaled a career-high 28 points going 9-of-18 in the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Recent SAA Player of the Week,
Alyssa Owens, scored 24 points for the second game in a row, going 8-of-12 in the field. Both also tallied four rebounds while
Alli Mayeux led the Lynx with 10 rebounds to go along with her seven points.
Ellen Hagen tallied six points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Caroline Taylor also tallied four assists and
Maya Longacre added seven rebounds.
The Lynx open the weekend at Berry on Friday for a 6 p.m. ET contest.
