Belton, Texas – The No. 7- ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor handed Rhodes women's basketball an 85-74 loss. The Crusaders improve to 4-1 on the year while the Lynx are now 3-4 overall.
UMHB led by seven after the first quarter and a three-pointer at the end of the second quarter put the Trojans up by 11 at halftime. In the third quarter, Rhodes pulled within one after two
Ellen Hagen free throws, but the hosts scored 10 unanswered points and eventually held a 14-point lead. The Crusaders maintained their lead throughout the final frame.
The Lynx were led by
Kiera Downey's 21 points and
Alyssa Owens' 17 points as the senior went 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Caroline Taylor tallied 10 points to go along with her five rebounds and five assists while
Alli Mayeux grabbed six rebounds. Hagen finished the night with 11 points. Owens scored 14 of her points in the second half while 13 of Downey's points came in the first half.
The Crusaders only made 3-of-17 three-point attempts, but out-rebounded the Lynx 46-28.
Rhodes and UMHB will meet again this season when the Crusaders travel to Memphis on December 14
th. The Lynx will compete next at Christian Brothers University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
