Clarksville, Ark. - Three-point shooting in the second and third quarters helped Rhodes women's basketball pick up their season-opening win Friday night. The Lynx defeated University of the Ozarks on the road 70-63, earning first year head coach
Rodney Rogan his first collegiate victory.
The Lynx trailed 15-11 after the first quarter, but posted a 27-13 second quarter advantage. During the second frame, Rhodes connected on six of their seven three-point attempts to take a 38-28 halftime lead. The Lynx continued to shoot hot from beyond the arc, making four of eight attempts. Rhodes' lead carried them in the fourth quarter as the Lynx made just one jump shot, but sank 14 free throws.
Senior
Alyssa Owens led the Lynx with 23 points after going 5-of-9 from three-point range and 7-of-15 overall.
Caroline Taylor led Rhodes with seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Ellen Hagen (18) and
Alexys Mathangani (12) also recorded double digits.
Taya Lee led the Lynx with three blocks.
Ozarks out-rebounded the Lynx 40-26 and held a 21-19 field goal advantage. Both teams shot .700 at the free throw line, but Rhodes' 11 treys and .440 three-point accuracy lifted the Lynx to victory.
