Sherman, Texas - Rhodes College women's basketball shot over 50% in the field Sunday but ultimately fell to Austin College 89-79. The loss takes the Lynx to 1-1 on the season.
The Lynx averaged eight turnovers in each of the first three quarters. The 'Roos jumped out to a 15-7 lead until a 6-2 Lynx run tighted the game. Austin College ultimately held a 23-19 advantage until Rhodes reversed the table and trailed by two at halftime (44-42). In the third quarter with Rhodes trailing 54-52, the 'Roos scored nine unanswered points but that lead was cut when the Lynx responded with six straight points. Austin College led 65-58 going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter,
Alli Mayeux went 3-of-4 from long range and totaled 11 of Rhodes' 21 points as the Lynx tried to make a comeback.
Mayeux led the game with 21 points, finishing the day 5-of-8 from three-point range while
Caroline Taylor recorded nine rebounds.
Alyssa Owens (16) and
Maya Longacre (12) both recorded double digit points. Rhodes totaled 28 turnovers to Austin College's nine, but recorded a .509 field goal percentage and .414 three-point average. Rhodes also out-rebounded the 'Roos 40-29 and Owens dished out eight assists.
Rhodes will host Dominican in their home opener on Sunday, November 17 (Homecoming Weekend) at noon.
