Sherman, Texas - Rhodes College men's basketball struggled from long range and committed 28 turnovers in their second game of the season, falling to Austin College 82-66. The Lynx are now 1-1 on the season.
Austin College scored nine straight points early to take a 13-4 advantage. The 'Roos then broke out to a 16-point lead with six minutes left before the hosts took a 41-26 halftime lead.Â
The first-half deficit was too much for the Lynx to overcome despite Rhodes tallying 40 points in the second half. Freshman
Jalen Essick scored nine of his 10 total points in the second half.
Bryce Berry also scored 10 points while freshman
Koki Wiley led the Lynx with 11 points. Seniors
Preston Giroux and
Owen Galvin both recorded seven rebounds while Essick added another six.
Overall, Rhodes shot .346 in the field, but only .167 from beyond the three-point arc. The Lynx scored 27 points on free throws and out-rebounded the 'Roos 45-36.Â
Rhodes will host East Baptist Texas University on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. home opener.Â
